In early 2007, our founder, Lynette Johnson, lost three adult friends to terminal illness. Each friend was a parent that left behind young children now facing a lifetime without a loving caregiver. With these events, it became obvious to us that it is equally important to offer the gift of memories to children facing the loss of a parent as such a legacy is for parents facing the loss of a child. Thus, Soulumination’s mission has expanded to include portraits of adults facing terminal illness: now dubbed The Legacy Project. Under The Legacy Project, Soulumination will photograph parents facing the end of their lives, with the hope that the children left behind will gain lifelong memories to hold and cherish.
Soulumination, founded by Lynette Huffman Johnson, celebrates the
lives of children and parents facing life threatening conditions by
providing professional photographs--free of charge--of these special
individuals and their families. The life-affirming photographs of
Soulumination are an enduring, positive record of the child's brief
life, and provide a loving legacy for the children of parents lost to
terminal illness.
